Sustainability

We are committed to transparency about our products, where their materials come from, and how we strive to make them more sustainable. Here's how we're doing our part:

The Box.

We know you hear “it’s reusable” all the time, but we mean it! Once you’ve filled your home with so many plants you can’t move, here are some creative ways to reuse it:

  • Store craft supplies, tools, or gardening gear.

  • Turn it into a fun DIY planter box or seed starter tray.

  • Use it for organizing items or as a container for donations.

Perlite.

In short, perlite is currently an eco-friendly option for us. However, we will continue to monitor its sustainability and explore alternatives if it becomes unsustainable in the future.

If you'd like a detailed breakdown of the production process for perlite, this article provides an in-depth explanation:
Is Perlite Bad for the Environment?

Sphagnum Moss.

We often hear about peat moss being unsustainable, but Sphagnum moss is rarely mentioned. After researching Sphagnum moss, the general consensus seems to be that it isn’t sustainable.

However, we dug deeper and found that Welsh Sphagnum moss is heavily restricted and farmed in a way that allows it to regrow before being harvested, making it sustainable.

It’s also helpful that it’s sourced locally, reducing the environmental impact of transportation. We’ll keep an eye out for any new research on this topic.

Pine Chips.

Our pine chips are made in the UK from renewable resources, ensuring a smaller carbon footprint compared to imported alternatives. They are derived from sustainably managed forestry operations, where trees are replanted to maintain ecological balance. This supports biodiversity and ensures a continuous supply of raw materials.

Pine chips are versatile and biodegradable, making them an eco-friendly choice.

You can reuse them in your garden as mulch or compost them after use, contributing to a zero-waste approach. By sourcing locally and responsibly, we aim to minimize our environmental impact while supporting sustainable practices in the forestry industry.
